Remarkable Social Media Marketing

Last week, promotional product supplier IClick blew me away with their social media marketing. I told the story to Jen Phillips April, and being the Philly Social Media Maven, she had to post it immediately. Thanks Jen :). More from me below her post...

Dana Baedke of Key Marketing & Promotions recently shared a story with me that illustrates how one business is setting itself apart through it’s use of social media. Dana sells 1000’s of promotional products—pens, notepads and the like. She works with dozens of vendors to fulfill her clients’ needs.

Recently, she “liked” a vendor’s business page on FB because she felt they were offering valuable information in their updates.

Here’s where her story surprised and delighted both of us.

This company noticed her “like” and they took the time to poke around on Facebook and learn more about her. They discovered she’s an avid runner. A few days after her “like,” she received a package in the mail with a book about running and a personalized note.

If you read marketing guru Seth Godin’s Purple Cow, you’ll realize this company set themselves apart as a “purple cow” by being remarkable. Now Dana’s talking about them and sharing her story.

Ask yourself how your business is remarkable. How can you show it to your customers?

The gift I received, in the real mail – something tied to my interests – was definitely remarkable and helped persuade me that I should go out of my way to work with iClick. Not only because they mailed me a personal gift, but because this was a "final  convincing touch" of many marketing efforts where I have grown to perceive them as 'above the crowd' of industry suppliers in serving their customers' needs as opposed to "selling what they've got." Kudos iClick!

Oh, and by the way, I also received a Prana headband, how cool is that? And the book is fascinating – "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, about a tribe of superathletes that seem to be able to run forever. I am enjoying these immensely and I'm liking them both on Facebook now!
